Horizon Educator Service Award
The Horizon Educator Service Award is presented annually, beginning in 2025, to an educator working in any of the four publicly funded education systems in Ontario (English Public, French Public, English Catholic or French Catholic school boards).
An educator is defined as an individual working directly or indirectly with students in a school setting or in student support services (educational assistant, education support worker, teacher, vice-principal, principal, coordinator, superintendent).
The $1,000.00 Award can be presented to one educator, or a team of educators in one learning setting, in recognition of superior service and support to students, and emulating ethical professional standards of respect, care, trust, integrity and excellent communication skills.
Only one award is presented in each calendar year.
The Award is presented each year by notifying the educator via email with a formal letter attached and an e-transfer for the monetary amount.
Criteria:
An educator currently working in any of the four publicly funded education systems in Ontario (English Public, French Public, English Catholic or French Catholic school boards).
The nomination notice must be accompanied by a 250 word statement (see below) to explain how the person or team emulates the ethical standards of the teaching profession listed above.
How to Apply:
- A person can self-nominate or be nominated by another person (colleague, supervisor, parent or community member).
- The person nominating the educator must describe in 250 words (through a written statement, video or audio recording, oral presentation) how the educator. It should be submitted with the knowledge and permission of the educator.
- Submit a nomination via email to monika@horizoned.ca with HORIZON EDUCATOR SERVICE AWARD in the subject line and include in the email:
- the name and contact information for the person nominating the educator (phone and email)
- educator’s name and work contact information (phone and email)
- the name of the school and/or school board where the educator works
- the 250 word statement as to why this educator deserves this award
