Access to Special Education in Ontario in a Social Justice Context
The results of our 2016 online parent survey are documented in the attached report as Part 1 of our ongoing project to identify systemic barriers and obstacles for parents advocating the rights of their children to access special education programs and services in Ontario’s publicly funded schools.
Anecdotal follow up interviews with parents noted :
‘We get the sense that we, and our child are an inconvenience’
‘It is clear that the school officials have a mandate as well as their own opinions on how a child should progress through school. As long as the student is passing and not creating trouble at school, they are not inclined to provide more support’
